The present-day Chamblee region was originally dairy farms. A settlement emerged in the late 19th century with the construction of a railroad intersection, and Chamblee was incorporated in 1907. The area served as a site of military operations during both World Wars, and Chamblee continued to grow thanks to a nearby General Motors plant. Today, Downtown Chamblee is preserved has a historic railroad community with many vintage buildings, combined with significant new development since 2000. Chamblee’s Chinatown mall is referred to as “Atlanta Chinatown.”
