The city of Tucker, GA, is located in DeKalb County, about 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Home to a population of more than 35,000 people, Tucker covers 20 square miles of land with the Eastern Continental Divide cutting through it.
First settled in the 1820s, the area was later developed as a railroad community in the late 1800s. Tucker remained largely agricultural until after World War II, when it began a steady transition into a mixed-use area of industry, retail and residences. Today, homes in Tucker are primarily a 1960s and 70s-era ranch style, along with multi-story residences built in the 1980s. Tucker is young as an official city, approved by voters for incorporation in 2015. Residents elected their first mayor and city council in 2016.
